Billing, plans and cancelling

How payments, failed payments, plan changes and cancellations work.

Paying

Plans are billed monthly in advance, in US dollars. Checkout is run by Polar, our reseller (Merchant of Record): Polar takes the payment, adds any sales tax or VAT your country charges, and issues the receipts and invoices. We never see your card details. Receipts, invoices and your card are in Billing → Payment methods & invoices.

You can have several subscriptions on one billing account: a server per subscription, a self-host licence side by side, each with its own renewal date.

If a payment fails

The payment is retried automatically, and your server keeps running for 4 days. If it’s still unpaid after that, your server is suspended: it’s stopped, but nothing is deleted. Update your card and it comes back by itself.

Changing plan

Pick the new plan in Billing. A bigger plan starts straight away: you pay the difference for the rest of the current period now. A smaller plan starts at your next renewal, so you keep what you’ve paid for until then.

The new plan’s slots, CPU cores and memory are staged on your server and apply the next time it restarts - your server page shows Changes waiting for a restart with a button to restart when it suits you. Upgrades wait for you as long as you like. Once a smaller plan starts, it applies within 24 hours: if you haven’t restarted by then, we apply it for you, which restarts the server if it’s running. The banner shows exactly when, so pick a quiet moment before that.

If an upgrade needs more room than the machine your server runs on has, the server keeps its current size until our team moves it. You’ll see a note in its activity log; you don’t need to do anything.

Cancelling

Cancel from Billing. Your server keeps running until the end of the period you’ve paid for (its page shows the date), then it’s suspended: stopped, but its settings, setup, schedules and results are kept. To bring it back, use Resubscribe on its page: the same server returns with everything as you left it. Self-host licences stop renewing at the same point and keep working offline for up to a week afterwards.

See our refund policy for refunds.
